Grandpa Visited His Friends At The Nursing Home Every Saturday – Until One Day

Every Saturday, Grandpa and I walked to the nursing home a few blocks away from our house.

Mom didn’t like it because I would skip playing with my friends so I could be with Grandpa even on a Saturday. We went to visit many of the old and sick people who lived there because they couldn’t take care of themselves anymore.

“Whoever visits the sick gives them life,” Grandpa always said.

First we visited Mrs. Sokol. I called her “The Cook.” She liked to talk about the time when she was a well-known cook back in Russia. People would come from miles around, just to taste her famous chicken soup.

Next we visited Mr. Meyer. I called him “The Joke Man.” We sat around his coffee table, and he told us jokes. Some were very funny. Some weren’t. And some I didn’t get. He laughed at his own jokes, shaking up and down and turning red in the face. Grandpa and I couldn’t help but laugh along with him, even when the jokes weren’t very funny.

Next door was Mr. Lipman. I called him “The Singer” because he loved to sing for us. Whenever he did, his beautiful voice filled the air, clear and strong and so full of energy that we always sang along with him.

We visited Mrs. Kagan, “The Grandmother,” who showed us pictures of her grandchildren. They were all over the room, in frames, in albums and even taped to the walls.

Mrs. Schrieber’s room was filled with memories, memories that came alive as she told us stories of her own experiences during the old days. I called her “The Memory Lady.”

Then there was Mr. Krull, “The Quiet Man.” He didn’t have very much to say; he just listened when Grandpa or I talked to him. He nodded and smiled, and told us to come again next week. That’s what everyone said to Grandpa and me, even the woman in charge, behind the desk.

Every week we did come again, even in the rain. We walked together to visit our friends: The Cook, The Joke Man, The Singer, The Grandmother, The Memory Lady and The Quiet Man.

One day Grandpa got very sick and had to go to the hospital. The doctors said they didn’t think he would ever get better.

Saturday came, and it was time to visit the nursing home. How could I go visiting without Grandpa? Then I remembered what he once told me: “Nothing should stand in the way of doing a good deed.” So I went alone. Whoever visits the sick gives them life.

Everyone was happy to see me. They were surprised when they didn’t see Grandpa. When I told them that he was sick and in the hospital, they could tell I was sad.

The Cook went on to reveal some of her secret ingredients. The Joke Man told me his latest jokes. The Singer sang a song especially for me. The Grandmother showed me more pictures. The Memory Lady shared more of her memories. When I visited The Quiet Man, I asked him lots of questions. When I ran out of questions, I talked about what I had learned in school.

After a while, I said goodbye to everyone, even the woman in charge, behind the desk.

“Thank you for coming,” she said. “May your grandfather have a complete recovery.”

A few days later, Grandpa was still in the hospital. He was not eating, he could not sit up and he could barely speak. I went to the corner of the room so Grandpa wouldn’t see me cry. My mother took my place by the bed and held Grandpa’s hand. The room was dim and very quiet.

Suddenly the nurse came into the room and said, “You have some visitors.”

“Is this the place with the party?” I heard a familiar voice ask.

I looked up. It was The Joke Man. Behind him were The Cook, The Singer, The Grandmother, The Memory Lady, The Quiet Man and even the woman in charge, behind the desk.

The Cook told Grandpa about all the great food that she would cook for him once he got well. She had even brought him a hot bowl of homemade chicken soup.

“Chicken soup? What this man needs is a pastrami sandwich,” said The Joke Man as he let out one of his deep, rich laughs.

Everyone laughed with him. Then he told us some new jokes. By the time he was finished, everyone had to use tissues to dry their eyes from laughing so hard.

Next, The Grandmother showed Grandpa a get-well card made by two of her granddaughters. On the front of one card was a picture of a clown holding balloons. “Get well soon!” was scribbled in crayon on the inside.

The Singer started singing, and we all sang along with him. The Memory Lady told us how Grandpa once came to visit her in a snowstorm, just to bring her some roses for her birthday.

Before I knew it, visiting hours were up. Everyone said a short prayer for Grandpa. Then they said goodbye and told him that they would see him again soon.

That evening, Grandpa called the nurse in and said he was hungry. Soon he began to sit up. Finally he was able to get out of bed. Each day, Grandpa felt better and better, and he grew stronger and stronger. Soon he was able to go home.

The doctors were shocked. They said his recovery was a medical miracle. But I knew the truth: His friends’ visit had made him well. Whoever visits the sick gives them life.

Grandpa is better now. Every Saturday, without fail, we walk together to visit our friends: The Cook, The Joke Man, The Singer, The Grandmother, The Memory Lady, The Quiet Man … and the woman in charge, behind the desk.

Woman’s Facebook post goes viral after Burger King employee does this at the drive-thru

A woman’s Facebook post has recently gone viral, describing an unexpected encounter with a Burger King employee.

In her post, Texas-resident Rebecca Boening explained that she pulled up to the drive-thru window to place an order and began stumbling over her words. After mentioning that she was diabetic, the Burger King employee immediately left her post and surprised Boening with her actions. Read her post below.

Rebbeca Boening

Wednesday afternoon I was driving west on I-40 when my blood sugar dropped to a dangerous level. Luckily a Burger King restaurant was at the upcoming exit. As I stumbled through placing my order I mentioned to the voice on the speaker that I was diabetic and in need of food. Low blood sugar makes it difficult to think or act. I pulled up to the first window in order to pay for my food. I was shocked to see Burger King employee Tina Hardy running toward the front of my car. She squeezed between the front of my car and the building just to bring me a small serving of ice cream. Tina later explained that her husband was also diabetic and she could tell that I needed help. After paying I pulled up to Tina’s window where she gave me my food. She instructed me to park across the driveway so that she could keep an eye on me until I felt better. After eating I waited for a break in business so that I could return to Tina’s window. I then took this picture and spoke with Tina’s supervisor, telling him what she did for me. If you appreciate what this special woman did please share this story. Hopefully Tina Hardy will receive the recognition that she truly deserves from the public and from the big bosses at Burger King.

In a time when our news highlights all the bad in the world, it’s wonderful to see such a kind act between two individuals.

Woman Cautiously Approaches State Trooper Only To Have His Actions Towards Her Go Viral

Kendra Powell was on her way to work the early shift at Walmart when she noticed a Georgia State Trooper squad car perched on the side of the road. As she got closer, Kendra realized the squad car’s trunk was popped and the officer was nowhere in sight. Her heart dropped. Where could he be?

Thankfully, the officer quickly popped up from the other side of the vehicle. But it was his next comment that sent Kendra for a loop.

His proposal was something she’ll remember for the rest of her life…

When Kendra first noticed the officer’s squad car, curiosity got the better of her! She slowly drove up to see what was the matter — and that’s when she saw the officer cleaning his vehicle’s windows. When he noticed Kendra peering out from behind her window, she piped up!

The two exchange pleasantries, but then, without hesitation, the officer offered to do something for Kendra.

As soon as Kendra returned home that day, she rushed to share what happened with the officer on the Love What Matters Facebook page. This story was too good to keep to herself!

She wrote:
“So, on the way to work this morning, I noticed a State Trooper on the side of the road with his trunk up. I felt compelled to stop and make sure he was okay. I never saw him, just the car.

So, I creeped past at a snail’s pace and turned around.

I pulled up to the car and cracked my window, hands clearly visible. I saw a white trooper come from the side of the car.”

Facebook/Love What Matters

“I said good morning and asked if he was okay and needed help. He smiled a brilliant smile and replied, ‘No ma’am,’ [and] that he was cleaning his windows. He showed the bottle and towels to me and I told him he had the good stuff.

He chuckled and asked if I minded if he cleaned mine too. I told him I was OK but he insisted. Highlight of my day…. [a] state trooper cleaning my windows with the good Rain-X cleaner. Every passerby had a stunned expression on their faces.

Then an elderly white couple stopped by and asked if they could have theirs done also. Lol, so he cleaned theirs too. The lady offered to pay him and he said no, just say a prayer for me…. so we did.

Right along [Interstate] 46, in the wee hours of the morning, parked beside the road for EVERYONE to see, we all linked hands and had a prayer.

White hands, black hands, officer hands, young hands, and old hands…. gave glory like never before. I was late for work lol but it was truly worth it. Couldn’t ask for a better way to start my day.”

This is a clear example that our country stands together with each other, as well as with our police officers – and it was all right there on Interstate 46, on display for the world to see!

This kind officer took time out of his day to do a favor for two strangers — all he wanted was a prayer in return. We can all take a lesson out of Kendra’s story and pray for each other a little more often!

Grandma Accidentally Films Video On New Smartphone With Footage Leaving Internet In Laughter

New technology is hard to wrap your head around! Figuring out the buttons, clickers and doodads can be a tricky maneuver no matter your age! One person who recently felt the pain of learning about a new piece of technology was Adrienne Gutowski’s grandmother. Grandma recently upgraded her old-school flip phone for a fancy smartphone — but it was hard for Grandma to navigate the screens without physical buttons! After a few minutes of letting Grandma handle the smartphone, Adrienne walked over to see how she was doing. She quickly saw Grandma mumbling to herself with the camera on. What in the world was she doing?

Grandma laughed nervously and asked why her face was staring back at her! Adrienne tried to explain that the camera was on and all she had to do was navigate to the home screen, but all Grandma heard was gibberish. She had no idea what any of her granddaughter’s directions meant. With a smirk on her face, Grandma looked into the camera and said, “For a smartphone, it’s not very smart!” This newfangled contraption wasn’t as reliable as her trusty flip phone. How could she ever get used to something that was so difficult to manage already? Thankfully, Adrienne was there to encourage Grandma. All she had to do was get away from the camera app.

Adrienne laughed as her Grandma did her best to learn what a “selfie” was, how to take one and how to get back to the phone’s home screen. The best part was that she was recording herself the whole time! Even though getting used to the new phone was a learning process, it was something Grandma enjoys now! Take a peek at Grandma’s silly “not-so-smart-phone” moment for yourself in the video here. She’s a sassy lady, isn’t she?

Family Tense Up Instant Dog Looks Into Owners Casket To Make Earth Shattering Revelation

Dogs are loyal creatures, remaining by their owners’ side through thick and thin. Dogs have been found lying alongside wee ones who have wandered off and been reported missing; they’ve kept vigil near a soldier-owner’s casket.

Sadie is no different. This 13-year-old border collie-dalmation-shepherd cross was adopted by her human parents when she was eight weeks old.

But when her human dad suddenly passed, it truly devastated her. Sadie’s human mom Julia Beaulieu said when emergency workers ceased working on her husband at their home, their pup walked up to him, laid down beside him and nudged his hand with her nose.

Not only did Julia struggle with the unexpected passing of her husband, but so did Sadie. The dog would stand at the window, waiting for her owner to pull in the drive just like always.

Sadie even stopped eating for 10 long days and lost 10 pounds. So when Julia planned her husband’s memorial service, she decided to include Sadie.

Julia thought it was in Sadie’s best interests to bid goodbye to her loved one in person. At the visitation, Sadie walked up to the casket with Julia, stood on her hind legs and peered in.

Julia said her dog had a look of shock on her face, seemingly almost puzzled by what she was seeing. Then Sadie visibly relaxed and remained by her mom’s side.

Jeremy May of Elements Cremation, which organized the memorial service, said that pets are family and as such, more and more people are bringing their four-legged loved ones to visitations and other services. They snapped the heartfelt photo and shared it to demonstration how beautiful the bond is between humans and dogs.
“This photo has touched us so deeply at Elements Cremation, Pre-planning & Burial, and we and the family want to share it with you. This photograph captures a special moment between a man, his wife and their best friend. She had recently lost her dear husband to a sudden heart attack and wanted to see him one last time to say goodbye … After the death, she showed signs of depression, would not eat and waited for him to come home every day. The wife believed that Sadie could also benefit from saying goodbye and getting closure herself, and she was right!”

After returning home from the memorial service, Sadie walked in the door of her home and ate her first meal. Seeing her loved one just one last time apparently gave the dog the closure she needed.

What a sorrowful yet beautiful story that Julia and Elements Cremation has shared. May they find peace together in the years to come.

4-Year-Old Runs Off To Homeless Man On Street Speaking 5 Haunting Words Dad Will Never Forget

There’s a caped crusader wandering around Birmingham, Alabama, that’s cute as a button and determined to save lives. His name is Austin Perine and he’s just four years old. He considers himself a superhero and his name is President Austin. His goal? To feed the homeless and help them turn their lives around. The four-year-old has since gone viral because of it. Dad TJ had to smile when Austin first shared his superhero name with him, because the preschooler believes feeding the homeless is what a president should do. As Dad said, “I was like, buddy, you have no idea, but hey, I’m going along with it.”

Austin was motivated to help the homeless after watching a momma panda abandon her baby. TJ told Austin the cub was now homeless. Austin asked what homeless meant and after peppering his dad with a few more questions, including whether or not people were homeless, he decided to take action. He told his parents that he wanted all of his allowance money and any money they planned to spend on his toys to go toward chicken sandwiches for the homeless instead. Raymont Baugh who is homeless said Austin gives him hope: “That’s where it starts.”

But even sweeter than the concept of a tiny tyke walking around Birmingham handing out food to the homeless is what Austin says every single time he gives someone a sandwich and a drink: “Don’t forget to show love.” Austin claims that feeding the homeless is “the highlight of my life. It’s just the right thing to do.” Watch how this kid brings a ray of light and hope to the homeless in his hometown. What a wonderful thing he and his family are doing!

Mom discovers large blisters on baby’s feet: Days later, police reveal the horrible truth

Having toddlers is an amazing experience, but it also requires a lot of work.

Many people – inexperienced, I might add – still believe that parental leave is basically like an extended vacation.

I can guarantee, however, that virtually any parent who’s been at home for a long time with their young child(ren) knows that it is anything but. Sure, you get to bond with them and spend time uninterrupted, but let me put it this way: You will begin to appreciate having a shower, because it’s the only time you’re afforded semblance of peace and quiet.

It doesn’t matter how much you love your child, even the best mom or dad in the world needs a couple of hours downtime here and there.

Which is why it’s perfectly acceptable that the mother in this story took hers.

However, when she returned home to her six-month-old baby, she wasn’t met by the smiling, happy child she had left. On the contrary…

The mom returned to her house after a couple of hours away to find that 36-year-old babysitter Ismelda Ramos Mendoza, of Bladensburg, USA, had been negligent with her daughter.

The moment she got through the door, she knew something was wrong. Upon inspecting her baby’s feet, she found that her soles were covered in huge blisters.

When she asked Mendoza what had happened, the babysitter said she had no idea.

Mom makes police call

However, the mom suspected foul play, and so called the police to lodge a claim of child abuse.

She then took her daughter directly to hospital, where the true extent of her injuries were made clear. She had severe burns on both feet, as though they had been cooked.

After 36-year-old Mendoza was arrested, it was discovered that she had become angry when the baby had failed to stop crying while she was cooking.

Mendoza had then forced the baby’s feet into the frying pan as punishment, according to US source The Washington Post.

For some mothers, it will be a long time before they feel secure enough to leave their baby with a babysitter again.

For more on this terrible incident, watch the news report below:

Bladensburg, Md. (AP) – Illegal Immigrant babysitter burns inf…

Ismelda Ramos Mendoza, 36, of Bladensburg, Maryland, was taken into custody on Monday, March 27 after she told investigators she became frustrated with a 6-month-old girl for crying too much. She was arrested and taken to the Prince George’s Department of Corrections.According to the court documents, the mother of the girl took the youngster, Ana Flores Guerrero, to the home of Mendoza on Wednesday, March 22 around 2 p.m. for Mendoza to watch the girl. The mother returned about three hours later to pick up her child. The next morning, the mother saw redness on the bottom of Ana Flores’ feet and asked Mendoza if she knew what happened. Reading about innocent children abused by vile adults is never easy. It amazes me that a person can do such a thing to a vulnerable baby.

Share this story with your friends on Facebook if you think Ismelda should be given a harsh penalty.

On Her Wedding Night After 10 Divorces She Told Something To Her New Husband That Will Leave you SPINNING!

A lawyer married a woman who had previously divorced ten husbands.
On their wedding night, she told her new husband, “Please be gentle, I’m still a virgin.”
“What?” said the puzzled groom. “How can that be if you’ve been married ten times?”
“Well, husband #1 was a sales representative, he kept telling me how great it was going to be but never delivered.
Husband #2 was in software services, he was never really sure how it was supposed to function, but he said he’d look into it and get back to me.
Husband #3 was from field services, he said everything checked out diagnostically but he just couldn’t get the system up.
Husband #4 was in telemarketing, even though he knew he had the order, he didn’t know when he would be able to deliver.
Husband #5 was an engineer, he understood the basic process but wanted three years to research, implement, and design a new state-of-the-art method.
Husband #6 was from finance and administration, he thought he knew how, but he wasn’t sure whether it was his job or not.
Husband #7 was in marketing, although he had a nice product, he was never sure how to position it.
Husband #8 was a psychologist, all he ever did was talk about it.
Husband #9 was a gynecologist, all he did was look at it.
Husband #10 was a stamp collector, all he ever did was… God! I miss him!
But now that I’ve married you, I’m really excited!”
“Good,” said the new husband, “but, why?”
“You’re a lawyer. This time I know I’m gonna get screwed!”
